We're pleased to be working in partnership with specialist diabetes, gastroenterology and bariatric surgery dietitians from Royal Stoke University Hospital to develop a new resource to support people to avoid and manage reactive hypoglycaemia.
This resource is for people experiencing reactive hypoglycaemia (it is not appropriate for people with diagnosed with any type of diabetes). The causes of reactive hypoglycaemia are multiple and varied, and may include bariatric surgery, oesophagectomy, gastrectomy, insulinomas and/or idiopathic reasons.
It aims to limit and avoid instances of hypoglycaemia and to safely treat it if and when they occur. By using the resource, the reader will understand how to:
- limit instances of hypoglycaemia by dietary approaches including small, frequent meals; choosing lower GI foods; achieving an overall balanced diet with adequate protein intake
- treat hypoglycaemia.
